Looking for a Job? Summer Youth Applications Due in April

Applications for the Summer Youth Employment Program, run by the city Department of Youth and Community Development, are now available online at www.nyc.gov/dycd, as well as at the district offices of Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park).

Ulrich’s offices are located at 93-06 101 Ave. in Ozone Park and 115-06 Beach Channel Dr., Suite 103, in Rockaway Park.

The employment program provides city youth with paid summer jobs for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs, including at parks, summer camps, hospitals, community-based organizations, small businesses, museums, and retail organizations. In addition to work experience, the program provides workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, and opportunities to continue education and social growth.

Programs are located in all five boroughs of the city, and individuals can apply for the program online or at various community-based organizations during the application period.

Participants are selected by lottery for the program. Specialized programming for disabled, foster care, runaway and homeless, and justice-involved youth are also available.

“Providing summer jobs for young people in our community is an excellent way to help keep kids off the streets and give them valuable work experience,” Ulrich said in a statement. “I strongly encourage parents and teens alike to pick up an application at one of my district offices or apply online.”

The deadline to submit completed applications is Friday, April 25. For more information about the program, please call 311 or (800) 246-4646 and ask about the Summer Youth Employment Program.
