With the end of Ramadan also came the beginning of a treasured Ozone Park gathering of friends and family members who marked Eid – the end of the holiday.
Members of the United Bangladeshi American Youth Association and the Queens Borough Democratic Club came together Monday afternoon to celebrate the holiday alongside Bangladeshi leaders from both the Ozone Park and Brooklyn communities. Thousands of borough residents were treated to rides and other party-like festivities throughout the day at what organizers called a successful event.
“In 40-plus years, the community never had an event to celebrate Eid as a festival. But we decided to have a festival, especially for the youth, who have nothing to look forward to after morning prayer,” said Iqbal Ali, one of the organizers. “We decided to pool all of our resources to provide everyone in the community, not just Muslims, with a great festival!”
City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) paid a special visit to the festival to show his support to both the organizations and their participation in the community.
