Last Thursday, Deputy Inspector Jeff Schiff, commanding officer of the 106th Precinct, mused on Twitter, “Congrats to #NYPD’s graduating class of 2015! Now how many cops can we get?!”

Twelve cops fresh out of the Police Academy have been assigned to the south Queens precinct that serves Ozone Park, Howard Beach, Lindenwood, and South Ozone Park.
“They are a good looking lot, eager to hit the streets!” Schiff said.
Last month, Mayor Bill de Blasio and the City Council announced that the city will be hiring about 1,300 new police officers as part of the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget.
