A lifelong Rockaway Democrat with a very familiar name has declared her candidacy for the 23rd Assembly District seat.

Stacey Pheffer Amato, daughter of former D23 Assemblywoman and current Queens County Clerk Audrey Pheffer, made the announcement on Tuesday. Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Howard Beach) has indicated that he will serve out the rest of his third term in office and not seek reelection.

“I have lived in Rockaway my entire life, raised a family here and worked in our local schools to ensure the best possible education for our children,” said Pheffer Amato, a Democratic district leader. “As a wife and mother, I know the challenges facing our families as we continue to recover from Superstorm Sandy and fight for the services we need. I intend to be a powerful advocate for southern Queens and Rockaway and I look forward to counting on your support in November.”

Pheffer Amato said she intends to focus on many of the issues that both her mother and Goldfeder took on during their time in office, including continuing efforts to expedite Sandy recovery and plans to take up the fight to reactivate the Rockaway Beach Rail Line.
