Former NYPD Officer Sentenced to 10 Years on Child Porn Charges

A retired NYPD police officer was sentenced to 10 years in prison last week for promoting child pornography.

Matthew Fanning, 44, of South Ozone Park, was arrested on February 28, 2008. After investigators found images and videos of child pornography on his computer, Fanning pleaded guilty in May to two counts of promoting child pornography. According to the guilty plea, Fanning admitted that he obtained two videos from the online file-sharing website Limewire.

One video showed a three-year-old girl engaged in a sexual act with an adult male. The second video depicted a 10-year-old girl engaged in a sexual act with an adult male.

“Today’s sentence should send a clear message to those who view and share child pornography that such behavior is unacceptable in a civilized society,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. “The children who are depicted in these vile videos are real children who are being sexually assaulted by adults and who will suffer the physical and emotional effects of these crimes for a lifetime.”
