Free Tennis Lessons Still Offered in Forest Hills

Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz announced that the New York Junior Tennis League, the most acclaimed scholastic tennis program in the United States, will offer free tennis instruction this summer at Forest Hills High School.

The program opened August 1 and runs through August 19.  Lessons are given Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program is open to all community youngsters ages 6 to 18 and will offer participants with free tennis instruction by professional instructors, supervised practice and low-key competition.  And this year, in partnership with the U.S. Tennis Association and First Lady Michelle Obama, the New York Junior Tennis League will present all children who participate with a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

Children must be signed up by their parents or legal guardians to participate.  Walk-on registration takes place at the site on any day in which the program is in operation.

“During my tenure at the Council, I have been fortunate to support outstanding programs for our youth such as the New York Junior Tennis League,” said Koslowitz. “Children need recreational activities and sports, such as tennis, in their lives. Their self-esteem and self-confidence, as well their self-discipline and ability to work and play with others, are greatly enhanced through their participation in such activities.”
