New Site Gathers Jobs, Sorts by Region

A new Jobs Express web site was recently launched to give New Yorkers an edge in their search for employment, announced Senator Joe Addabbo (D-Queens). The site aggregates thousands of job postings throughout the state and sorts them by region, to make it easier for job seekers to find suitable, permanent employment.

The Jobs Express web site features easy-to-use drop-down menus, videos that offer advice to job seekers and an electronic job-matching tool known as “Skills Matching and Referral Technology” (SMART), which generates job leads from resumes. Currently, the New York State Job Bank has 42,370 job openings, including 22,684 in New York City and an additional 5,973 on Long Island. The Labor Department will update the job listings on a daily basis.

“My constituents are some of the hardest-working people in the State,” said Addabbo, who serves on the Senate’s Labor and on its Civil Service & Pensions Committees. “In this difficult economy, it’s crucial for them to have all the resources available to not only find immediate employment, but to find long-term careers.”

For further employment resources, there are 88 public One-Stop Career Centers across New York where job seekers can go for additional free services, including job search and place- ment assistance, skills assessments, resume help, labor market information, career planning and training assistance.
