Biker Bandits Stealing Bags in Glendale

Two men are robbing women in the streets of Glendale and using a motorcycle to speed away with the valuables, police say.

Three times since the beginning of November, two men, one white, one Hispanic, have robbed women in the evening or early night hours, Captain Michael Cody, commanding officer of the 104th precinct, said.

The last time the two struck was on Dec. 1.

Their victims are female and range in age from 19 to 64, Cody said. So far, the perpetrators have targeted women clearly carrying some kind of bag or package from shopping that’s easy to snatch. All three crimes happened just north of Forest Park between 80th Street and Woodhaven Boulevard, from above the Jackie Robinson Parkway up to Cooper Avenue.

Police are unable to release mug shots, a sketch or anything else about the two suspects and the motorcycle they ride because there is sparse information.

“We don’t have a very good description of them,” Cody said.

He’s asking residents in the area to be especially vigilant and help his precinct if they see anything out of the ordinary.

“If you see two people on a motorcycle, if they’re parked if it looks suspicious, please give the precinct a call; give 911 a call,” Cody said. “It may be something very innocent, or it could be someone out there committing a crime.”

Cody has also stepped up patrols in the area but emphasized at a local civic meeting that neighbors and awareness are often the key to stopping crimes like these.

“The best police work, I tell my officers, comes from the community,” he said.
