NYS Education Fund Gets $105 Million

Resorts World Casino New York City has generated more than $105 million for the New York Lottery’s Education Fund in less than five months after opening, according to the latest Lottery Report released yesterday. 44 percent of Resorts World’s earnings are given to the fund as part of an ongoing commitment to support New York’s education system.

“Improving our education system has been a primary goal from the very beginning of the video lottery program, we are proud that our partnership with the state has proven so fruitful for New Yorkers,” said Michael Speller, President of Resorts World Casino New York City. “In addition to the revenue generated for education, Resorts World has created thousands of jobs and fostered economic development in our community. These latest figures confirm the tremendous potential of large scale development projects in Queens.”

Resorts World has generated revenue for the Education Fund that is approximately equivalent to the annual salaries of 2,300 new teachers. With education budgets consistently tightening, this revenue will allow for students throughout New York City and State to continue to earn a high-quality public education.

Lottery revenues are only part of Resorts World’s commitment to the state and its South Ozone Park community. Since its Oct. 28, 2011 opening, Resorts World has welcomed more than 3 million visitors to its Queens facility, built a permanent workforce of 1,500 with 70 percent hired from the local area, and is actively engaged in supporting community service and development projects in partnership with local organizations.
