Rabbi Gerald Skolnik, spiritual leader of The Forest Hills Jewish Center, was elected president of the Rabbinical Assembly of Conservative Rabbis, on May 7. The Rabbinical Assembly is an international body of Conservative and Masorti rabbis, representing approximately 1.5 million Conservative Jews. Rabbi Skolnik has been senior rabbi at The Forest Hills Jewish Center, the largest Conservative congregation in Queens, since 1984.
In one of his first official duties, Rabbi Skolnik had the honor of introducing Vice President Joe Biden to the convention. Rabbi Skolnik introduced Biden as “an outspoken supporter of Israel” and thanked him after the speech. “When you speak words of support, they enter our hearts. We feel it and we are most grateful,” Skolnik said.
