The Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps (FHVAC) launched their initiative to train 200 members of the community in lifesaving CPR on Sunday, July 21, 2012. Their first CPR event, of many scheduled for this year was a great success.
“The goal of the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps is not only to provide our community with EMS but also to empower our residents to take action! We advo- cate public responsibility through volunteerism and education.” said Ron Cohen, President.
CPR classes range in cost from $40 to more than $100. The FHVAC is providing this training for at no cost to the participant. Under the instruction of FHVAC Member Andrew S. Rotjan, R.N., CPEN, & EMT-P, 20 residents and business people were trained in lifesaving CPR. American Legion Post 1424 hosted this training event at their hall located on Metropolitan Avenue. Post Command staff was happy to assist the FHVAC in providing this training to the community.
A cardiac arrest victim is twice as likely to survive if a person trained in CPR witnesses the cardiac arrest and can begin CPR immediately.
The FHVAC will continue to provide this free training for community and business people throughout the year. The FHVAC is seeking financial assistance in order to continue this initiative and needs help with sponsorship for future events. Sponsors can contact the FHVAC via email at info@fhvac. org or by calling their headquarters at 718-793-2055.
