Demonstrating its draw as an entertainment hotspot, Resorts World Casino New York City kicked off its full schedule of entertainment events this past weekend including the legendary group Kool and the Gang.

Drawing a crowd upwards of 2,500, Kool and the Gang played several of their top-ten hits, including “Celebration,” “Ladies Night,” and “Jungle Boogie.” This was a great sign of things to come, as the Irie Jam festival the following night brought nearly 2,000 guests to Resorts World’s Central Park Events Space to hear the best of Reggae, Soca and Dancehall music. Attendees celebrated the station’s 19th Anniversary, the independence of both Jamaica and Trinidad, and the great showing of their respective teams during the 2012 London Olympics.

“The tremendous interest in our first outdoor concert confirmed that guests come here for much more than just gaming,” said RWNY President Michael Speller. “Resorts World provides the best possible mix of entertainment experiences for our guests and we are always adding to our calendar.”

Kool and the Gang was the first concert at Resorts World to take full advantage of the outdoor Festival Commons space adjacent to Aqueduct Racetrack, which spans 70,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate 5,000 guests. Irie Jam will be returning to Resorts World again this year, with concerts over Labor Day Weekend and in early October.

The new entertainment line-up is in addition to popular weekly events at RWNY, including Throwback Thursdays – a tribute to everyone’s most beloved ‘oldies’ and featuring appearances by local DJs and popular tribute bands – art exhibitions, celebrity appearances, and live music every night.
