Caruana Could Challenge Crowley

Although neither an official announcement, nor a final decision has been made according to insiders at what could be Craig Caruana’s campaign, serious considerations are being made by the Middle Village born activist to run for the seat in the 30 th district currently represented by Elizabeth Crowley.

“We will make a decision in the next few weeks,” Caruana said in a statement. ” …I have been in touch with community leaders about possibly running.
If I run, the campaign will focus on the lack of constituent services from our current council member and why focusing on neighborhood issues should be the priority of our elected officials.”

Born and raised in Middle Village, he is known as a community activist that has worked with neighborhood organizations including the Knights of Columbus at Resurrection Ascension Parish and as a board member of both the Kiwanis Club of Glendale and the Juniper Park Civic Association.

He writes regularly about neighborhood issues for the Juniper Berry.

Most recently  Caruana was an information specialist at the Fox News Channel where he produced newsworthy content for all of Fox News and Fox Business Network programming. In addition, he is the National Security Fellow at the Pax Americana Institute and the author of the book American Power: Still the Best Hope for Peace.

His career began in the Pentagon, serving as an aide to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy. In that capacity,  h assisted in the management of an organization of 100,000 employees with a $50 billion annual budget.

Caruana also worked on historic acquisition programs, notably the rush delivery of MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles to Iraq.

Following his time with the Assistant Secretary, he joined the Office of Naval Intelligence as an intelligence analyst. While working at ONI, he authored the first ever Baseline Assessment in his area of expertise. He was awarded a Special Act Award for his work writing reports for and conducting briefings with senior officials. Caruana earned his Bachelor’s degree in Politics from The Catholic University of America and his Master’s degree in International Affairs from Texas A&M University.
