Soon to be ex-mayor Michael Bloomberg was in Howard Beach on Tuesday night in support of Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) at a fundraiser held on the rooftop at Vetro.

About 200 Ulrich supporters nibbled on passed hors d’oeuvres, kebobs, sliders and other treats at the Howard Beach hotspot where they were joined by Bloomberg who stopped by to sing the praises of the man who he termed, “an honest guy with a very, very bright political future.”

The mayor’s only criticism of the councilman came in the fact that he would have advised becoming a billionaire first, and then getting into politics.

Ulrich thanked the mayor for his contributions to communities in his district well served by the administration adding that although they didn’t always agree with Bloomberg, he had in fact proven himself to be a great leader for New York City; one who did more for Hurricane Sandy victims than anyone else.

The councilman also thanked those he identified as loyal supporters and the heart and soul of the communities they live and work in. “I am very grateful for all my opportunities to serve my constituents and I hope I have proven myself worthy of their trust and loyalty.”

The 28-year-old will face off against Democratic challenger Lew Simon in November.
