The July 4th weekend kicks off Atlas Park’s family celebration events. Throughout the summer, Atlas Park, located on Cooper Avenue in Glendale, will feature a series of family oriented activities, including book readings, concerts, outdoor movies, and family fitness.

It all starts on July 8; the Queens Public Library will be on site with books, arts and crafts and other educational games. “Reading on the Green” will take place every Monday between 10 a.m. and noon.

Tuesdays starting at 6 p.m. will have educational tutorials by Mad Science, an interactive and educational learning group. Concerts will ensue afterwards, including Henry Haid, a Billy Joel tribute band, Decadia, an 80s group, and The Amish Outlaws, which covers songs from Adele to Sir Mix-a-lot.

Beginning on Wednesday July 10 at 8:30, Atlas Park will have outdoor family-friendly movies. The films they’ll be showing include “The Blind Side,” “Up,” and “Rocky.”

On every Saturday from July 13 until Aug. 24 there will be “Fitness on the Green,” a free one-hour exercise class, headed by a trainer from New York Sports Club. The class goes from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Various interactive children shows and performances will take place on Sundays on the green from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., running from July 14 to Aug. 18.
