Music fans have plenty to look forward to at Forest Park this summer, when everyone from a Beatles tribute band to groups covering the Bee Gees and Billy Joel will entertain crowds at the George Seuffert, Sr. Bandshell.

The annual Forest Park Summer Concert Series will run through part of August and will feature bands playing the music that have thrilled generations of rock lovers. All the concerts are free and open to the public.

Lennon, a tribute band that plays the tunes of the Beatles and John Lennon, will take the stage on Thursday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. Stayin’ Alive, which performs music by the Bee Gees – a group of three brothers who played pop in the 1960s and 70s and disco later on, will be at the bandshell at 7:30 p.m. on July 25. On Aug. 1, the ever-popular Mike Delguidice and Big Shot – a Billy Joel tribute band – will begin rocking out in Forest Park at 7:30 p.m.

For the series’ finale, residents can spend an evening listening old favorites by Charlie Thomas’ Drifters. Thomas, an American rhythm and blues singer best known for his work with The Drifters, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The Drifters’ first release was the 1959 hit “There Goes My Baby,” and Thomas was the lead singer on two of the group’s top 40 hits – “Sweets for My Sweet” and “When My Little Girl is Smiling.”

For those who want something a little different than rock ‘n roll, the Queens Symphony Orchestra will perform at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the bandshell.
