The 102nd Police Precinct announced at the end of last week that its commanding officer, Henry Sautner, was promoted from captain to the rank of deputy inspector.

Sautner, who replaced Armando DeLeon as the head of the precinct at the end of 2012, officially became a deputy inspector on Friday, according to an email the precinct sent to area civic leaders.

“He would like to thank the members of the community for their continuous support,” the email from the 102nd stated in reference to Sautner.

Civic leaders praised the relatively new commanding officer of the precinct that covers Woodhaven, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, and the northern portion of Ozone Park – and said the new title is much deserved.

“Deputy Inspector Sautner has a difficult job, and he’s been doing it well,” said Alex Blenkinsopp, director of communications for the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association. “We congratulate him on his much-deserved promotion. We know he’ll keep up the great work, and we look forward to continuing to partner with him and everyone else at the 102nd Precinct.”

Maria Thomson, a member of the 102nd Precinct Community Council and Community Board 9, also said the recognition for Sautner is “wonderful and well-deserved.

“He’s only been with us for a relatively short time, but has proved himself to be a great leader,” Thomson said. “The precinct, officers and lieutenants are very supportive of him and they like him very much.”

Sautner, a resident of the Rockaways, previously served as the commanding officer of the NYPD Transit Bureau District 33 in Brooklyn and as an officer in Brooklyn’s 63rd District. After becoming the head of the 102nd, Sautner immediately began reaching out to area organizations, including block associations, civic groups and religious organizations.
