A 21-year-old Far Rockaway resident has been charged in the shooting of a ten-year-old girl last weekend at the Dix McBride Apartments in Far Rockaway.
Lenard Crudup, 21, who is a reputed member of the so-called Rowdy Gang, has been chargedwith firing a gun into the front courtyard of the privately owned apartment development and wounding ten-year-old Brianna Palmer.
The defendant lives at 81-03 Rockaway BeachBoulevard in Far Rockaway and was arraigned and charged with first- and second-degree assault, second-degree criminalpossession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the charges, Crudup was observed standing in thestreet in front of 22-29 Dix Avenue just after 1:00 a.m. on August 3, 2013,and firing several shots into the front courtyard, one of which struck 10-year-old Brianna Palmer abovethe hip. The police allegedly recovered two .380 caliber casings and one fired bullet from the scene ofthe shooting.
Brianna Palmer was taken to Jamaica Hospital and treated for her injuries.
The defendant was arrested by detectives from the New York CityPolice Department’s 101st precinct. Ifconvicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
