The 42-year-old man who sexually abused a customer in March after following her from a laundromat located at 85-42 Woodhaven Boulevard will spend seven years in prison after being sentenced by Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard L. Butcher.
Richard Kassenbaum, of 84-09 155th Avenue in Howard Beach, followed the 40-year-old victim at around 4:30 on the morning of March 31, and as she turned the corner on her way home, he grabbed her from behind, choked her and knocked the glasses off her head. When he grabbed her buttocks, she screamed and he fled the scene.
According to trial testimony, after reviewing video surveillance from inside the laundromat and elsewhere, Kassenbaum was seen wearing the same blue shirt and jeans the victim described her attacker to be wearing. He was also observed standing in the parking lot outside the laundromat as the victim left. Kassenbaum was then seen walking behind the victim and following her onto Woodhaven Boulevard. Video footage from just after the attack shows him running back and returning to the laundromat.
