Thanksgiving Stabbing Sends Woman to Hospital

A South Richmond Hill man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his wife repeatedly during a fight at their home on Thanksgiving, according to police.

Xavier Cabarcas, 31, was arrested and slapped with charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said.

While Cabarcas and his wife, who was not named by police, were fighting at their South Richmond Hill home on Lefferts Boulevard around 4 p.m. last Thursday, the 31-year-old male allegedly attacked her with a kitchen knife, according to police.

The woman was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

According to other published reports, the couple live with their three children, ages two, six and eight, but they did not witness the alleged attack.

A number of the Cabarcas’ neighbors said they did not know the couple well, though one woman, who wished to remain unnamed for fear of retaliation, said she had witnessed the couple fighting before.

“I’m sure others have seen him yelling,” she said. “It’s just a shame because they have little children. Why would you do something like that on Thanksgiving? Why would you do something like that, period?”
