Holiday cheer filled the streets of Woodhaven last Saturday, when the “Welcome Santa to Woodhaven” parade rolled down Jamaica Avenue.

The Woodhaven Business Improvement District sponsored the annual event, which drew residents from throughout the neighborhood – and beyond – to cheer on Santa and Mrs. Claus, who arrived in their tried and true sleigh, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The parade, which began at noon, ran along Jamaica Avenue from 100th Street to Dexter Court.

Others marchers included Woodhaven BID Executive Director Maria Thomson, the Franklin K. Lane High School ROTC, members of the 102nd Police precinct, St. Luke’s Nursery School, and the Forest Park School, among other neighborhood organizations.

The Woodhaven BID has a variety of upcoming holiday activities. Everyone is invited to take free pictures with Santa Claus and friends at the Forest Parkway Plaza area on Saturday, Dec. 14, and on Dec. 15 there will be a free trolley ride traveling Jamaica Avenue from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The WBID will again take free pictures with Santa and friends from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 21.
