London Lands a Taste of Rockaway

Turns out, it’s not only New York hipsters who have recently proclaimed their love for Rockaway.

A bar named Far Rockaway Shoreditch has recently opened in a Williamsburg-esque neighborhood in London – and the 400-seat restaurant includes plenty of “urban” and Queens kitsch – from hundreds of hand-painted skateboards to Rockaway Playland neon signs and menus emblazoned with the words Far Rockaway.

Owned by New York native George Dowling, the bar – which was reported about on a Rockaway blog, www.rockawayist.com – is also covered in graffiti-style art and includes a reading room boasting 4,000 DC and Marvel comic books.

And, in order to offer some culturally competent grub, its staff apparently traveled to Denino’s in Staten Island to learn how to craft traditional New York City pizza.
