The Howard Beach community immediately heeded the call for help yesterday for multiple families left homeless after a two-alarm blaze ripped through their house around 1 a.m. Friday. – and there has been such an outpouring of support that the family who owned the home devastated by the fire has asked that there be no more donations at this time because they have run out of space to store them.

The Curcio family, who owned the house at 164-02 92nd St. in Howard Beach, said they are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming amount of support from the community. Donations poured in yesterday – so many that the house where the Curcio family is now staying can no longer hold any more.

The Forum is coordinating efforts to house the donations until the family is able to use them. Please call (718) 845-3221 at any time with any questions regarding this.

What the FDNY ruled to be an electrical fire destroyed the home owned by Sal and Maria Curcio, who lived there with their three children, ages 17, 19, and 20. The multi-family house was home to other families as well.

While the fire department responded within three minutes to the blaze, it was already too late and the owners and neighbors said the structure was gone within minutes.
