Ozone-Howard Little League to Unveil Memorial Honoring Veterans

For members of the Ozone-Howard Little League, the unveiling of a striking memorial this Saturday is something that will not only be a concrete reminder for current residents of the sacrifices military members have given throughout the country’s history – it will, for decades to come, serve as a thank you to the countless future individuals who will put everything on the line in service.

In just about six months, the Ozone-Howard Little League has raised the money needed for the brick and granite memorial, which will be unveiled at a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday by the league’s fields at Centreville Street and 149th Avenue. All are welcome to attend.

Saturday’s event will kick off with a free breakfast for veterans provided by the little league.

The flagpole for the memorial site was donated from the Howard Beach Memorial Services, and the 36-by-30 inch plaque on the memorial includes an image of military members raising the American flag. On the plaque is inscribed a message from the Ozone-Howard Little League to veterans.

“To the mothers, fathers and families whose sons and daughters have made the supreme sacrifice, to those veterans who will suffer the wounds and ravages of war and to those missing and not yet home, in order that we may continue to live in freedom in the greatest nation on earth, the United States of America…may their sacrifices never be forgotten,” it reads.
