Play Ball! Hundreds Kick Off Baseball Season in Broad Channel

Hundreds of young athletes and their families kicked off the Broad Channel Athletic Club’s baseball season Saturday, when the community came out in full force for the opening day parade and ceremony.

The event drew 276 children from 25 teams for the parade, which also served as a walk-a-thon to raise money for the club. The funds that were raised will go directly to the BCAC. In addition to the crowd of baseball players, another couple hundreds people, from family members to civic leaders, attended the much beloved festivities that annually draws a large crowd. Twelve games were played throughout the day, which was attended by BCAC President Jim Mangan, Councilman Eric Ulrich, and a representative from Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder’s office.
