Fresh Meadows man convicted in fatal Richmond Hill beating: DA

A 28-year-old from Fresh Meadows was found guilty of manslaughter in the March 2013 beating of a 24-year-old man at a Richmond Hill party spot, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Kristian P. Sorbera, 28, of Parsons Boulevard in Fresh Meadows, was convicted after a weeklong trial late last month of manslaughter in the killing of Richmond Hill native Deosarran Ramdula, Brown said.

According to the criminal complaint, Ramdula was out parting with a friend when he got into an argument with Sorbera outside the club before leaving in a cab around 5 a.m. Sorbera then approached Ramdula around the corner from the club and attacked him and beat him – later telling his friend, “your friend deserved that,” Brown said.

Ramdula was hospitalized and put on a ventilator before his family removed him from life support March 24, the DA said. His death was ruled a homicide by brain injury.

“The defendant has been convicted of having viciously beaten a 24-year-old man to death,” Brown said. “According to trial testimony, the defendant saw the victim outside the club after it had closed. He jumped out of his car, punched the victim once, knocking him to the ground and brutally kicked the Queens man in the face and head, causing brain death. The defendant now faces a lengthy prison term.”

He will be sentenced Aug. 28 and faces up to 25 years in prison, the DA said.
