Cops on Wednesday were still searching for a bold thief the day after he robbed an area bank branch in broad daylight.

The suspect walked into the Capital One bank on Cross Bay Boulevard near 156th Avenue on Tuesday around 11 a.m. and passed a threatening note to a teller before fleeing the bank and driving away in a car that was double-parked outside of the branch, according to Police Officer Sophia Mason. He stole several thousand dollars in cash and no one was injured.

Immediately following the 911 call to police, area schools PS 232, PS 207 and St. Helen were ordered locked down before police determined it was safe to resume daily activities.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, approximately 5-foot-6 inches tall, 160 pounds with a crew cut, goatee and neck tattoo. He was last seen wearing a black jacket.

Officer Mason said that the robbery was being investigated by 106th Precinct Detective Squad. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
