Dep. Inspector Henry Sautner, commanding officer of the 102nd Precinct, on Tuesday night heaped heavy praise on October’s Cops of the Month: Police Officer Jonathan Morales and Police Officer Darrell Glenn.
Spotlighting the poise the officers displayed last month during a particularly frenzied incident involving a dog attack, Sautner, speaking at the monthly 102nd Precinct Community Council meeting, said “The control and restraint that [Morales and Glenn] showed was nothing short of remarkable.”
On Oct. 28, Morales and Glenn arrived at the location of the attack, encountering a young woman outside of the residence screaming “My family is being killed!” After the officers were directed to the basement, they descended the staircase and found a family member being pinned down by a crazed pit bull. In extremely tight quarters, Sautner pointed out, Morales and Glenn shot the animal twice, killing it.
“These two guys, within a week, were back on duty,” Sautner said. “This is what we do, day in and day out.”
Later in the meeting, Sautner detailed the command’s crime statistics, highlighting an overall decline of 9 percent, compared to this time last year. While major felonies grand larceny and grand larceny auto are up slightly this year, murder, rape, robbery, assault and burglary are down considerably.
“I have, for my money, the best team in all of Queens South,” Sautner beamed. “This is not just a fluke—it’s a steady [decline].”
