Note to prospective perpetrators who might be thinking about doing business within the confines of the 102nd Precinct: Don’t bother running.

Fleet of foot Police Officers AnnMarie Tyrie and Erik Contreras earned December Cop of the Month honors after chasing down a burglary suspect and retrieving the stolen property, all without injury to crook or cop.

“This is certainly much appreciated in the 102,” said Dep. Inspector Henry Sautner, commanding officer of the precinct.

Tyrie and Contreras’s heroics, Sautner said on Tuesday at the 102nd Precinct Community Council meeting in Richmond Hill, are just the latest example that police work is different every tour.

“Routine patrol? There’s no such animal,” Sautner noted.

The commander went on to introduce the six rookie cops who have been assigned to the 102nd. Sautner said that five of the six have already affected arrests in just 10 days on the job; three of those five have more than one collar under their belts.

“They’re jumping right in; they’re not shy—very high energy,” Sautner said. “And they expressed their desire to come to Queens South.”

Overall crime dropped by about 9 percent in the 102nd in 2014, Sautner explained, with “significant decreases” in robbery and felonious assault. However, his staff is still working on suppressing grand larceny and grand larceny auto numbers.

“We’re always combating [vehicle crimes],” Sautner added, before noting that lately perps are stealing rims and tires from late model cars.
