Transportation Security Administration officers at LaGuardia Airport last week got quite the surprise when they opened a piece of checked luggage that had triggered an alarm during screening to find a beige and brown Chihuahua among articles of clothing.

The black, hard-sided suitcase set off the alarm for unknown contents, agency officials said, prompting an officer to pop open and inspect the bag.

The administration worked with the airline to locate the traveler and reunite her with her dog. The owner was just as surprised as the officer who found it, according to the TSA. The woman said that the tiny canine must have climbed into the suitcase and curled up in the clothing while she was packing for her trip. She had no idea the dog, whose name could not be obtained, had crawled in, a TSA spokeswoman said.

The woman called her husband, who came to LaGuardia to pick up the pup and bring it back home.
