Unlicensed Cab Driver Hauled in for Hustling Fares at JFK

An unlicensed livery cab driver last weekend was arraigned on charges that he allegedly solicited fares at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Barnabas Laurent, 47, of Brentwood, Long Island, was arraigned on charges of third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, second-degree criminal impersonation, third-degree criminal trespass and unlawful solicitation of ground transportation. Laurent is being held in lieu of $500 bail.

According to the criminal complaint, Laurent was seen approaching numerous passengers at JFK Airport’s arrivals section in Terminal 1. He allegedly told passengers that the Air Train wasn’t operating, stated that he was a Super Shuttle driver and offered to take them to the Jamaica Station or elsewhere. Investigators found a Super Shuttle rate book as well as receipt books and other material with the Super Shuttle logo inside Laurent’s vehicle. His next court date is scheduled for March 19.
