Nearly 200 people last Saturday night packed a Roma View hall to celebrate the civic minded as the Kiwanis Club of Howard Beach honored community leaders at its 53rd annual dinner dance.

The Queens West Division chapter presented awards to Joe Mure, Jr., NYPD Det. Kenny Zorn, and Immediate Past President Daniel Golom.

“You could not have picked three more deserving honorees tonight,” said City Councilman, Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park), a Kiwanis member.

For his efforts to raise funds for juvenile diabetes research, Joe Mure, Jr. earned the Clement Vicari Service Award.

“Tonight’s honor touches me very closely,” Mure said, seeming to beat back tears as he addressed the room. One of his sons was diagnosed with the disease when he was 5.

The Howard Beach Club also gave Mure a check for $1,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“I want to thank everyone here for their support,” Mure said.

Zorn, who leads Community Affairs for the 106th Precinct, was presented with the Community Service Award.

“The commanding officers come and go, but Kenny is always there for this community,” Ulrich said.

Golom was presented with a plaque for his presidency, which was marked by his stewardship of the club post-Superstorm Sandy.

“Not only did we laugh,” recalled current President John Spagnuolo, “but Danny led us, and he led us to great things.”

Additionally, all three honorees received proclamations from Ulrich, state Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) and Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Howard Beach).
