Valentina Allen, the brave 2-year-old Howard Beach tot who has crawled into the collective heart of a community, was scheduled to undergo her third open-heart surgery on Wednesday at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Valentina, pictured here with mom, Danielle, and dad, Ryan, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital defect marked by a severely underdeveloped left ventricle. The little girl’s family and friends have hosted “Team Valentina” fundraisers this year at Gold’s Gym to benefit the Philadelphia hospital, specifically its Cardiac Social and Cardiac Research departments.
