The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators recently announced they are now accepting applications for four $2,500 scholarships to be awarded June 8 at its Annual Conference Weekend in Albany.
Current or entering college students from the state are eligible to apply, and need not be of Italian-American heritage. Applicants will be chosen based on grade-point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the community, as well as financial need.
Scholarship applications must be submitted by April 27.
Hopefuls in the area may pick up an application at any of the three district offices of state Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach): 66-85 73rd Pl. in Middle Village; 159-53 102nd St. in Howard Beach, or 88-08 Rockaway Beach Blvd. (Rm. 311) in Rockaway Beach.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for all students in my district and I encourage everyone eligible to apply,” Addabbo said. “Higher education comes at a price—a high price, but a worthy one. Education is invaluable and I am proud to be a part of a conference that promotes that message.”
