Eight local schools will be represented next Monday night at the annual Interfaith Council of Southwest Queens Brotherhood/Sisterhood Essay Contest, to be held at Christ Lutheran Church Parish Center. Three seventh and eighth graders from each school will be presented with awards and will read their essays, which this year focused on the topic “Youth Speaks Out,” regarding Malala Yousafzai being the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize for advocating for the right of all children to be educated. The Interfaith Council asked the junior high students to share any strong feelings they might have on a human rights issue and to speak to whether or not they feel comfortable sharing those feelings, even though they are young.
Christ Lutheran is located at 85-15 101st Avenue in Ozone Park. The awards event will take place on May 11 at 7pm. All are encourage to attend in support of our community’s young writers.
