City Councilman Ruben Wills (D-Jamaica) joined civic leaders, Sanitation Department officials, business owners and community members on Wednesday to announce that Fedcap-Wildcat Service Corporation will conduct an intensive, month-long spring cleaning of the 28th District’s commercial corridors along Liberty Avenue, Sutphin Boulevard, Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, Rockaway Boulevard, and 101st Avenue.

Wills noted that Wildcat has been working to beautify district neighborhoods for the past two years, and added power washing to its arsenal this spring.

Wills also said that these efforts are crucial to the success of the southern Queens economy.

“Spring is here, and our community’s business owners are ready to welcome consumer dollars that lay dormant this past winter,” Wills said. “Our storefronts’ allure will hinge on the appearance of our streets, sidewalks, and major thoroughfares. If we are to draw pedestrian traffic into our local businesses during the warm weather months that lie ahead, a rigorous cleaning of this type is essential. Wildcat has served my district’s sanitation needs well, and I expect that to be no different by the end of springtime.”

Weather permitting, the corridors will be cleaned every Friday and Saturday, holidays excluded, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“We may be a big city, but we’re also a collection of towns, and our commercial strips reflect all who live in those towns,” said Community Board 10 Chairwoman Betty Braton. “Councilman Wills fully understands this, and we thank him for pulling together the forces of government, the non-profit sector in Fedcap-Wildcat, community civic groups, and local merchants into this partnership to keep dirt off our streets.”
