Library to Host Veterans Town Hall

The Queens Library and the Department of Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Healthcare System will be hosting a Town Hall next month for those who have served, providing authoritative information about benefits and eligibility.

The free meeting will take place on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jamaica Library, 89-11 Merrick Blvd. Veterans will be able to learn more about educational benefits that may be available to qualifying Vietnam veterans, Desert Storm and Desert Shield veterans, as well as those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan; VA healthcare and the Affordable Care Act penalty exemption; and the Women Veterans Program Manager, which is available to advise and advocate for women veterans’ healthcare by assisting them in coordinating services, such as primary care, specialized care for chronic conditions and reproductive health (Maternity Care Program).

Veterans of all eras are encouraged to attend our Town Hall Meeting for answers to questions about applying for VA benefits, compensation and pension, burial benefits, NY City and NY State benefits. Following the morning Q & A session, Veterans may enroll in VA care on-the-spot. For more information, contact Lyn Johnson, outreach specialist, at (212) 686-7500 x 4218.
