Thirty-five card sharks looking to spend an enjoyable Friday evening while giving to charity came together last week to play Texas Hold ‘em and raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Little Valentina Allen of Howard Beach died earlier this year from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, leaving behind her big sister, 3-year-old Victoria, mom Danielle, and dad Ryan – all of whom were present at Friday’s Forum-sponsored poker tournament. Nearly $4,000 was raised to benefit CHOP’s Cardiac Social Department, which enables families to stay with their babies during surgeries and was of great comfort to the Allen family during Valentina’s many ordeals.
