An Arverne man this week was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing more than ten ounces of cocaine that he intended to sell, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
Chris Brown, 26, was sentenced on Monday. He was convicted last month of first- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following a week-long jury trial, DA Brown said.
According to trial testimony, as a 103rd Precinct police officer approached Chris Brown on the night of June 15, 2014, she said she saw him throw a black plastic bag into the vestibule of a residence on 185th Street in St. Albans. Inside the black bag were five plastic bags of cocaine with an aggregate weight of 10.7 ounces and a street value in excess of $12,000. Cops also recovered $2,120 in cash from Brown’s pants.
District Attorney Brown said that Chris Brown’s “arrest, conviction and now sentencing represents a clear demonstration of my office’s commitment to rid our county of illegal narcotics trafficking and to improve the quality of life of our Queens residents. The lengthy sentence imposed today by the court is more than warranted.”
