Talk about right place, right time.

Two City police officers assigned to the Special Victims Division recently came to the rescue of a woman who was being sexually assaulted in Woodside.

Sergeant Christopher Miro and Det. Everett Newman of the division’s Night Watch Unit had just finished interviewing a woman who was sexually assaulted in the area the 65th Street subway station and were on their way to the scene last Tuesday to further investigate when they observed another woman walking along 69th Street with a man following her in close proximity. The investigators then observed the woman attempt to cross over to the other side of the street when the man pounced on her – grabbing her by the waist and throwing her down to the ground.

As the suspect began to sexually assault the victim, Miro and Newman jumped out of their unmarked car and grabbed him. The man resisted by pulling away from the veteran officers and punching them. They eventually were able to apprehend the struggling suspect.

According to the NYPD, the assailant is a 23-year-old borough resident who has been charged with attempted rape; two counts of assault on a police officer; sexual abuse; forcible touching; attempted forcible touching; and assault. The investigation is ongoing.
