A Riverhead, Long Island, woman has been charged with attempted assault and other offenses for her alleged role in an incident in which a City Police detective was shot in the head with a BB gun while he was driving down Jamaica Avenue, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown and the NYPD.

Tiara Ferebee, 24, was arraigned on Sunday on a complaint charging her with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was ordered held on $1 million bond/$500,000 cash bail and to return to court on Oct. 31.

According to the NYPD, Det. Adam Jangel was driving an unmarked police vehicle westbound on Jamaica Avenue near 168th Street when a passenger of a brown 2015 Nissan Altima traveling eastbound on the avenue discharged a pellet from a BB gun. Jangel and his partner, Det. Mary Humburg, who was sitting in the passenger seat, heard a pop sound, Brown said, and Jangel started bleeding substantially from his forehead.

The Altima sped off in an unknown direction. Jangel was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and determined to have “a foreign metal projectile” lodged in his forehead between his skin and his skull, Brown said.

Ferebee was arrested on Saturday evening after surveillance video showed her allegedly seated in the back seat of a brown-colored Altima with the window open as it was driven eastbound directly parallel to the driver’s side window of the unmarked police vehicle.

If convicted, Ferebee faces up to 15 years in prison.
