A 33-year-old Queens man has been sentenced to 33 years to life in prison for a May 2011 shooting that took place in Springfield Gardens, Queens, killing one man and seriously injuring four others. Ronald Colson, has been sentenced for a May 2011 shooting that took place in Springfield Gardens, Queens, killing one man and seriously injuring four others. District Attorney Brown said, “The death of this young man and the wounding of four other individuals is yet another painful example of the mindless gun-related violence that too often takes innocent lives. The sentence imposed today by the Court punishes the defendant and hopefully brings a measure of solace to all of the victims and their families, knowing that justice has been done.” Colson was convicted this past June of one count of second-degree murder, four counts each of first-and second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count each of second-degree promoting prostitution, first-degree reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence and was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 33 years to life in prison.

According to the charges, at approximately 2:00 a.m. on May 23, 2011, Colson, who advanced and profited from the prostitution of another person, fired a semi-automatic pistol into a crowd that was gathered at an outdoor party near 182-06 145 Drive before fleeing the scene. Dane Freeman, 20, was fatally struck in the head and four other individuals were seriously injured by the gunfire.
