A 73-year-old Queens man has been charged with sending sexually explicit text messages for the last month to someone he met online and whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The online chat, he hoped, would lead to a personal encounter where he would have sexual relations with her.

The alleged victim was actually an investigator with the New York State Police who is assigned, in part, to investigate cases involving the use of the internet to entice children to have sex.

According to District Attorney Brown, senior citizen Joel Einhorn is accused of conversing online for a month with a person who he believed to be an underage teen girl. Without his knowledge, the conversations were being had with an undercover police officer. “This case illustrates the tenacity of alleged sexual predators and the amount of time they are willing to expend grooming a teen to accomplish their goal of meeting in person an underage child for sexual relations,” said DA Brown.

Einhorn was arraigned on November 17, 1016, before Queens Criminal Court Judge Stephanie Zaro on a criminal complaint charging him with second-degree attempted rape, second-degree attempted criminal sexual act, first-degree attempted dissemination of indecent material to minors and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. Einhorn, who faces up to four years in prison if convicted, was ordered held on $7,500 bail and to return to court on December 20, 2016.

Criminal charges say that a NewYork State Police investigator, acting in his capacity as a 13-year-old female, responded on October 18, 2016, to a personal ad on Craigslist entitled, Daddy looking for “real” Queens “girl” No flakes (M4W). It is alleged that between that day and November 17, 2016, Einhorn chatted online with the investigator who told him on more than one occasion that he was a 13-year-old girl living in Queens. During those conversations, it is alleged that Einhorn used explicit sexual language and discussed various ways he planned to sexually please her and his desire to meet with the teenager for sex. Einhorn was arrested on November 17, 2016, when he arrived at a pre-arranged meeting location in Queens in a red 2015 Honda Civic. Inside the vehicle, investigators allegedly recovered an open black bag containing sexual paraphernalia.
