Governor Andrew Cuomo last week announced $1.75 million in funding to support five new Recovery Community and Outreach Centers in communities in the City, Central New York, and the Southern Tier.

The new centers, Cuomo said, will provide health, wellness and other critical support to individuals and families who are recovering from a substance use disorder or are seeking recovery services for a family member or friend.

According to Cuomo, the new additions bring the total number of recovery centers in the state up to 14, including one in each of the five boroughs.

“Addiction devastates the lives of too many New Yorkers and their families, but recovery from addiction is attainable with the right support,” Cuomo said. “New Yorkers in every part of the state will now will have the recovery-focused resources and supports they need to make their recovery possible, bringing us another step closer to a stronger and healthier New York for all.”

In Queens, Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is set to receive a piece of the State funding support. A nationally-recognized human services organization, Samaritan provides substance abuse treatment, mental health and primary health care, specialized programs for military veterans, vocational and employment services, shelter and transitional housing, and services for seniors to more than 28,000 people each year through a network of more than 40 facilities located throughout the city, Long Island, and Upstate New York.

According to the Cuomo administration, the Recovery Community and Outreach Centers will provide a community-based, non-clinical setting that is safe and alcohol/drug-free for any member of the community. Each recovery center will respond to the local area’s specific needs related to obtaining substance abuse treatment services and addiction recovery supports. The centers will promote long-term recovery through skill building, recreation, wellness education, employment readiness, civic restoration opportunities, and other social activities. Services will be accessible not only during the daytime hours, but also during evening and weekends, to meet the needs of individuals and families who may be in need of assistance at varying hours.

Recovery center staff will provide assistance to individuals and families to help them navigate the addiction treatment system and secure insurance coverage for
