State Sen. Joe Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach) earlier this month was sworn into office on the Upper Chamber floor by Hon. Janet DiFiore, Chief Judge of New York State.

Addabbo, 52, earned a fifth term in November by soundly defeating familiar GOP foe Michael Conigliaro for the second consecutive race.

“I’m up and working today as a state senator because of the support of my constituents,” he said in a brief note posted to his Facebook page the morning after Election Day. “Thank you.”

Addabbo has represented the expansive 15th Senatorial District – Broad Channel, Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Glendale, Hamilton Beach, Howard Beach, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ozone Park, Rego Park, Richmond Hill, Ridgewood, South Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Woodside and the Rockaways – since he was first elected to the seat in 2008.

Retired NY Supreme Court Judge Augustus Agate recently dubbed Addabbo “the best state senator in all of New York.”

“Politics and public service are in his DNA,” Agate reasoned.

Indeed it seems that the Ozone Park native continues to follow in the footsteps of his late father, Joseph P. Addabbo, Sr., who served 13 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1960 to 1986.
