Authorities say a meat cleaver like the one shown above was used in the brutal slaying of a 50-year-old woman by her niece in their Jamaica, Queens home.

A 30-year-ld woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of her aunt in a viscious attack with a meat cleaver. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, Elizabeth Sanchez (aka Digna Sanchez-Ortiz) brutally attacked Maria Palaguachi on the morning of March 16 in the 174th Street home that they shared in Jamaica, Queens.
The 50-year-old victim was struck multiple times about the head, neck and shoulder with a meat cleaver by her niece, resulting in fatal wounds. The meat cleaver was recovered at the residence.
The defendant is charged in the criminal complaint with second-degree murder and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and is being held pending arraignment.
If convicted, she faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
