A 23-year-old Astoria man is awaiting a judge’s sentencing decision after his conviction last week of uploading a sexual performance by a child to his Google account last September.
Local police got a cyber tip report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, that the defendant, identified as Charles Flores, had uploaded pornographic images of children about 7 months ago.
Authorities say Flores admitted that his curiosity had turned into an obsession for actively pursuing thousands of images and videos. DA Brown said Flores “downloaded and saved several thousand images and videos of children – some as young as five – being sexually abused by adults. These are not just pictures and videos. They are … crime scene photos of children being sexually abused.” In referring to the victims in this case– the abused children– Brown said, “they are real people who will have to live with the abuse they suffered for the rest of their lives.”
Charges say that after tying Flores to the cyber tip report, he admitted to NYPD detectives that charlesf20@gmail.com was his address. A subsequent forensic preview of his hard drive revealed 20 images of prepubescent children roughly between the ages of five and 12 being vaginally and anally penetrated by adult males.
Flores told police he began seeking out child pornography to help his girlfriend and it escalated to an obsession. Further forensic analysis of the hard drive, as well as other electronic devices in the defendant’s possession, revealed hundreds of videos and images of children as young as four years old being sexually abused by adults.
Judge Gia Morris, indicated she will sentence Flores to one to three years in prison on June 12.
