Mayor Bill de Blasio, Police Commissioner Jim O’Neill, NYPD brass, and the leadership of the 105th Precinct joined the families of fallen officers last Thursday as the command unveiled the Memorial Wall featuring the plaques of four Finest who made the ultimate sacrifice inside the Queens Village stationhouse.
“The way we keep their spirit alive is by telling their story time and time again,” said Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch.
The four plaques on the wall are dedicated to Patrolman Howard Barrows, who died in 1930; Patrolman Clarence C. Clark, who died in 1938; Patrolman Victor C. Cooper, who also died in 1938; and Det. Brian Moore, who died just two years ago on May 4, 2015.
“More than the tradition of just that police officer who gave his all, it’s the tradition of our families who live it every day—it doesn’t get easier, the pain doesn’t go away,” Lynch said. “We should always remember: Great women and men went before us, great women and men have died in our recent history; but there are always great women and men who are willing to do it for us tomorrow.”
The son of a retired NYPD sergeant, Moore was shot in the face in Springfield Gardens after asking a suspect what he was fidgeting with in his waistband. His family decided to take him off life support two days later. During his five-year career, Moore was awarded two Excellent Police Duty Medals and two Meritorious Police Duty Medals for exceptional work.
