Three distinguished Queens veterans received special commendations from Borough President Melinda Katz last Thursday during her annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at Borough Hall.
The former service members who were presented with Citations of Honor are: Sgt. First Class Marvin Jeffcoat, U.S. Army (veteran of the Iraq War: Operation Desert Storm); Specialist Fourth Class Albert Noble III, U.S. Army (veteran of the Vietnam War); and First Lt. S. Lester Friedman, U.S. Army Air Corps – Air Force Reserves (veteran of World War II).
The event also included a wreath-placement ceremony to honor all those whose lives were lost in service to the nation, and remarks from special guest speaker Kathryn Cross, a Navy Gold Star Mother.
“The sacrifices made by the men, women and their families are how I may tuck my babies in safely every night. And so today – and every day – we remember, salute and march for our fallen,” Katz posted to her Facebook page.
