A Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn man has been convicted of attempted rape after sending sexually explicit messages and a picture to a person he had met online whom he believed was a 14-year-old Queens girl.
The defendant set up a time and place to meet the “girl” for sex and was arrested when he arrived at that location.
“The internet is a valuable learning tool for young people, however, it is also a doorway for sexual predators to gain access to children. This defendant actively sought out a teenage girl and shared sexually explicit messages and a photo and tried to lure the child to meet in person for sexual intercourse. A jury has spoken and found the defendant guilty. He will be incarcerated for his egregious and illegal actions,” said District Attorney Brown.
Eslam M. Abdeledayem, 33, of Coyle Street sat through his two-day-trial, in which a jury deliberated for about seven hours before finding Abdeledayem guilty of second-degree attempted rape late last week. Queens Supreme Court Justice James Latella, has set sentencing for October 26, 2017, at which time the defendant faces up to four years in prison. District Attorney Brown said that, according to trial testimony, an NYPD vice detective was operating in his undercover persona as a 14-year-old girl from Queens on May 27, 2014, at which time he was contacted by Abdeledayem, who was using the screen name IPACKA94U@aol.com. After the initial instant message conversation on May 27, 2014, the defendant began communicating with the undercover officer via text messages. Abdeledayem’s instant messages and texts were sexually graphic in nature and in one instance he sent a photo of his genitals to the “girl.” In those communications, the defendant indicated that he wanted to meet her for sex on June 11, 2014 and set up a time and place. When Abdeledayem arrived at the location he was met by an undercover police officer who was posing as that 14-year-old Queens girl. He was arrested at the scene.
